In 1754, Kumher faced a vast besieging force associated with Malhar Rao Holkar’s camp, imperial factions and Jaipur. Surajmal’s defence held. During inspections, Khanderao Holkar was killed by artillery fire — a shock that helped lift the siege and spread Surajmal’s fame across India.
